TINY, MIGHTY KITCHEN REVIVAL

A jewel-box kitchen where every inch works — and every detail delights.

Nestled in one of Winston-Salem’s most character-rich post-war homes, this 63-square-foot kitchen posed a familiar challenge: not enough space, not enough storage, and no room for a full-sized stove. But what it lacked in size, it more than made up for in potential.

Our client, whose style is as timeless as her home, needed a kitchen that felt as beautiful as it was functional. We reimagined the footprint, shifting the stove’s location to improve both flow and symmetry. Upper cabinets were extended to the ceiling, blind corners were fitted with clever kidney-bean pullouts, and the cabinetry layout was streamlined for maximum utility. A shallow breakfront at the window wall introduced just the right amount of visual rhythm and grace.

Every design decision was intentional, down to the details. A semi-flush mount fixture from Visual Comfort brought sculptural light to the center of the room, while under-cabinet task lighting offered practicality without clutter. We softened the palette with a custom Roman shade in Greenhouse fabric and added a whisper of pattern through Cole & Son’s Feather Fan wallpaper — a pale green and white that plays beautifully against the crisp cabinetry and warm brass accents.

The result is a kitchen that feels spacious, elegant, and thoroughly at ease. Proof that good design doesn’t require more square footage — just vision, craft, and a little imagination.
