Sunni L. Goodson is an interior designer known for blending refined modern aesthetics with the layered narratives of historic architecture — crafting homes as distinctive as the stories they hold.

Her path began at UNC Chapel Hill and led to a Master’s in the Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of Bath in England, where her thesis explored the adaptive reuse of Charleston’s iconic Single House form...
After more than a decade living and working in Dublin, Ireland, Sunni earned Irish citizenship and honed a globally informed perspective through her formal training at the Dublin Institute of Design and her work with two Grade I preservation architecture firms. There, she balanced roles as interior designer and preservation specialist —cultivating an internationally shaped aesthetic, grounded by her Southern roots.

Since returning to North Carolina, Sunni has expanded her practice to serve clients globally and co-founded Studio336 Interiors in Winston-Salem’s historic West End. With over fourteen years of experience spanning heritage and contemporary projects, she brings clarity, creativity, and confidence to every collaboration, helping clients create deeply personal, enduring homes.

Testimonials
"Before engaging Sunni to help us with our new home, we didn’t know how to start the design process. The house was a large, blank slate with some tricky details. It was a little overwhelming, so it was a huge relief to have her take the reins on devising and then executing a whole-house design concept and installation plan from start to finish. Sunni took the guesswork out of making decisions on the best furnishings and layout specifically for our home, and she did an enormous amount of detailed design and coordination of each of our spaces. We absolutely love the look and feel of the house now. Our expectations for a designer were high, and Sunni exceeded them from her design skills through her rapport with us as clients. She has a unique style and view of the best approach to design. We would wholeheartedly recommend her to anyone in search of a signature interior designer."

“I gave Sunni quite the challenge: a 63-square-foot 1949 kitchen that had never been updated. She didn’t blink—she dove right in. I’d put it off for years because I couldn’t picture what to do, but Sunni arrived with her magic measuring tape and soon had drawings that transformed the space without adding an inch.

At our first meeting, she somehow unlocked my brain—I walked out with every decision made, from wallpaper to a knock-you-dead light fixture. She’s brilliantly talented, wildly organized, and an absolute joy to work with. Now I have the most gorgeous 63-square-foot kitchen you’ve ever seen!”

"Our upstairs layout had always been a headache — one extra-long bedroom that ended up as a dumping ground for anything without a home. I couldn’t figure out how to make the space work, no matter how many floor plans I sketched. Then Sunni came in with fresh eyes and completely reimagined it. She presented several creative options, including a super fun vestibule entryway into one of the new bedrooms, and helped me see how the entire floor could function so much better. The plan we landed on gave us two real bedrooms and a walk-in primary closet that feel intentional, cozy, and true to our home’s character.

Beyond the design itself, Sunni made the process easy and enjoyable. She listened, guided me through each decision, and helped me feel confident in my own taste and sense of color. Working with her felt like collaborating with a friend who just happens to have incredible design instincts. I’m already dreaming up new projects just for an excuse to work with her again!"

" We’ll have a new room, A blue room, For two room, Where every day’s a holiday…' These lyrics from 'Blue Room' in The Music Man say it all. A navy blue bedroom and a brand-new bath addition were at the top of my wish list, and Sunni brought them to life more beautifully than I imagined. The space she carved out in that bathroom addition feels like a whole new world. We also asked for as much natural light as possible, and now our home is filled with it--- eleven new windows, interior glass walls, even cupolas inviting light from above.

These are just a few examples from the hundreds of thoughtful details she handled. We changed our minds weekly, and she always adapted with grace. Sunni checked in constantly, coordinated seamlessly with our contractor, stayed unfailingly organized and on time, truly listened, and remembered everything that mattered to us. Plus, she’s simply fun to work with. We waited a long time to make these updates, and we wanted them to be perfect, and they are. Whatever your home’s style or age, you won’t be sorry you chose Sunni."
